How to make the most of it

Depending on the dictionary you use, you might find many things:

• a definition of the word
• one or more pronunciations (e.g. British English, US American English, Australian English), different spellings
  
• prepositions and their use with the word in question
• irregular endings for verbs
• synonyms and antonyms
• an etymology, derivation or history of the word
• examples of how the word is used (context)
• derived terms and inflections
• phrases or idioms, slang usage
• plurals
• near neighbour words that might be related
• standard letters (e.g. application or complaint), maps, statistics on population, list of countries/cities, list of famous people, ...
